Check the results of the 2009 elections in New Jersey and Virginia
In 2007, the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) welcomed the Republican Secretaries of State to its organization which supports state and local elected officials. The Republican Secretaries of State Committee (RSSC) is committed to raising money nationally in support of Republicans in their contests for the office of Secretary of State.
Background
Currently, Republicans hold 20 of the 47 Secretaries of State offices nationwide. Of the 20 seats, 16 are elected positions. Over the past 3 years, the RSSC has been a partner in these races across the country:
- In 2007 the RSSC helped with the victories in Mississippi, where Republican's switched party control, and Kentucky, where Secretary Tre Grayson weathered a tough environment to win re-election
- In 2008 the RSSC was involved in the successful re-election of Sam Reed in the State of Washington. Additionally, with legislative wins in the Tennessee Senate Tre Hargett was elected by his peers to serve as Tennessee's Secretary of State.
- In 2009 a Republican won the post of Governor in New Jersey and was appointed to the position in Virginia growing the number of Republican Secretaries of State to 20.
2010 Election Cycle
The RSSC is positioned to build off these successes as we prepare for the 26 Secretary of State elections in 2010. Of the 26 races, 11 are currently held by a Republican. On top of the 26 races this year, 7 are currently open. They are: Arkansas (D), Connecticut (D), Indiana (R), Michigan (R), Ohio (D), South Dakota (R), and Vermont (D). These races will be key to the organization’s continued growth. Your support of the RSSC is essential in our efforts to elect more Republicans committed to conservative principles of governance to the Office of Secretary of State.
The RSSC will continue its mission to elect more Republicans with the leadership of Honorary Chairman Delbert Hosemann, Mississippi. |
