NY: Former LG now Governor Won't Take Senate Seat; Wants to Run for Re-election

Paterson moved into the executive mansion in March after the resignation of Eliot Spitzer amid a prostitution scandal. Paterson on Monday recalled the turmoil surrounding Spitzer’s departure, saying, “I wouldn’t want to put the state through that again.”

If Paterson were to move to Washington, he would be succeeded by the State Senate majority leader — Sen. Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) currently holds the post — because there is no lieutenant governor. Paterson has the sole authority to appoint Clinton’s replacement if she were to decide to leave Congress.

KY: Criminals Blamed for Full Jails

Build more jails?
From Kentucky.com:

State Rep. Kathy Stein, D-Lexington, who has been chairwoman of the House Judiciary Committee, said she expects a “full frontal assault” from prosecutors.

In a rebuttal to Lawson’s report, Fayette County prosecutor Ray Larson said 20 persistent felons cited in the study had been convicted of more than 300 felonies and misdemeanors.

“The average citizen wants to be protected from these predatory repeat criminals,” Larson said.

Attorney General Jack Conway said he is willing to “listen and to talk about what offenses ought to trigger the PFO laws.”

PA: Pols Lining up House Leadership

At 3 p.m., House Democrats meet behind closed doors to cast secret ballots for leadership posts for the next two-year session, starting in January.

A key question is whether 20-year leader Bill DeWeese retains a role - he’s running for majority whip, the No. 3 spot in the Democratic-controlled House - after leading a caucus that’s rope-tied to an ongoing corruption probe.

Last summer, state Attorney General Tom Corbett charged a dozen individuals with using government employees and millions of tax dollars for political campaigns and cash rewards for political work.
